Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
0n the first month after installing my 10kWh lithium solar battery, I stopped thinking of it as equipment and started treating it like part of the house.
My 6.6kW rooftop solar system sends excess afternoon production into the battery instead of exporting everything for a small credit. The real difference comes after 4pm, when our electricity tariff jumps. The battery runs the refrigerator, lights, router, and heat-pump water heater until bedtime. On ordinary sunny days, I use roughly 85% of the stored energy before grid power takes over overnight.
Before installation, our evening usage regularly added around $3–$4.50 to the daily bill during peak hours. Now that charge is usually under $1, and some days it disappears entirely. My monthly bill fell from about $280 in summer to $150–$170, although weather and household habits still matter. I did not expect the savings to feel so immediate; seeing the inverter app show battery discharge while cooking dinner is oddly satisfying.
The setup was less dramatic than I feared. The installer finished in one day, mounted the battery beside the garage, and configured a 20% reserve so we would not drain it completely. I specifically compared the "10kw solar system with battery price" before choosing a smaller system, because our roof and budget did not justify ten kilowatts. The quote was higher than panels alone, but the payback made sense once I included peak pricing and backup value.
One minor annoyance appeared during the first week: the battery stopped charging at 92%. I checked the app, found a charge limit enabled after a firmware update, and restored the setting in two minutes. Since then, the solar battery has been quiet, predictable, and genuinely useful.
