Every evening, I glance at the battery app before dinner, mostly out of curiosity, but it has become my clearest proof that our solar battery storage was worth installing. We have a Deye hybrid inverter paired with a 10kWh lithium battery, and the biggest difference is what happens after sunset.
Before the battery, our solar panels stopped helping around 4:30 p.m., just as cooking and heating pushed our usage up. Now the battery charges during the day and carries us through the evening peak period. On ordinary weekdays, I see roughly 6–8 kWh discharged after dinner. That has cut my peak-rate electricity costs by about $2 to $3 per day, or approximately $70 a month, depending on the season. It is not a dramatic overnight miracle, but the savings are consistent, and I notice them in the bill rather than just in an app.
I had one small scare during the first month. The battery showed a low state-of-charge warning even though the weather had been sunny. After checking the cables and looking through the inverter settings, I realized the backup reserve was set to 30%. The battery was not faulty; it was simply holding that reserve for outages. I lowered it to 20%, and the usable capacity immediately made more sense for our routine. I still keep 25% before stormy weather, which feels like a reasonable compromise between savings and backup protection.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic operation. There is no daily switching or generator noise; the transfer happens in the background when the grid drops. We have had two short outages, and the lights stayed on both times.
