Solution Solar Battery
I installed a 10kWh LiFePO4 battery system last spring, after getting tired of watching our electricity bill jump whenever the air conditioner ran. The installer mounted it in our garage, connected it to the rooftop solar inverter, and programmed it to charge from solar during the day and discharge after 4:00 p.m.
The first week was mostly about learning the app. I could see solar production, battery state of charge, and household consumption in real time. That visibility changed my habits. I started the dishwasher and laundry before dinner, when the panels were still filling the battery, instead of waiting until evening.
The biggest difference showed up on my first summer bill. Before storage, peak-hour usage regularly pushed our monthly total above $200. With the battery covering lights, cooking, and cooling between roughly 4:00 and 9:00 p.m., that bill fell to $128. Cloudy days still required grid power, and the battery did not fully recharge after several stormy days. Still, saving around $70 a month during the hottest part of the year made the investment feel real.
I had one minor troubleshooting moment. One morning, the app showed the battery at 7% even though the forecast promised sunshine. The inverter had switched to backup mode after a brief outage and had not returned to solar priority. Cycling the setting and restarting the inverter fixed it. Since then, I check the operating mode once a week.
The system has made outages less stressful, and essential loads keep running. It gives me confidence during expensive evening utility rate periods. I am watching lifepo4 battery life through the app, although true longevity will depend on temperature, cycling, and maintenance. So far, this solar battery has been quiet, predictable, and genuinely useful. My only regret is waiting so long to add home energy storage.
