Solution Solar Battery
Until I installed my solar battery, my electricity bill felt completely disconnected from the sunshine on my roof. The panels produced plenty during the day, but we were still buying expensive power every evening.
My setup now uses a sunsynk 8kw hybrid inverter with a 10kWh lithium battery. I chose that size mainly because our household load is fairly predictable: cooking, the dishwasher, and hot water all happen after sunset. Once the battery reaches its reserve level, the inverter automatically switches to grid power, so I do not have to think about it constantly.
The biggest practical difference has been peak-hour savings. I set the battery to charge from solar first and discharge between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., when my tariff is highest. On a sunny day, we usually get through the evening without importing much electricity. Before storage, those same hours were responsible for the most painful part of our bill. My monthly payment has fallen by roughly 35 to 45 percent depending on weather and how often we use the electric oven. That is more noticeable than the app's colorful graphs, although I do enjoy checking them with my morning coffee.
The only nuisance was a brief winter troubleshooting moment. During a stretch of cloudy days, the battery stopped discharging earlier than expected. I eventually found that the reserve setting had been increased during a firmware update. Lowering it restored normal operation, and I now check the solar monitoring app after updates rather than assuming everything stayed unchanged.
I still keep a sensible reserve for outages, so I do not chase the absolute maximum savings. For me, battery backup is valuable when the grid flickers, especially with the freezer and router running. After several months, the system feels less like equipment and more like a household habit.
