8 months ago, I added a 280ah lithium battery to my rooftop solar setup, and the biggest difference has been what happens after dinner. Before the battery, my house pulled expensive grid electricity from about 4 p.m. until bedtime. Now the solar battery carries most of that evening load.
I paired it with a hybrid inverter and kept the existing panels, so installation was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the battery in my garage, ran a short cable route, and had the solar battery system showing energy flows in the app before lunch.
The savings are clearest on weekdays. My utility charges peak rates between 4 and 9 p.m., and the battery now discharges during nearly that entire window. In the first full month, my bill fell from roughly $186 to $112, even though we used the air conditioner about the same amount. That $74 drop felt more convincing than any advertised estimate. On sunny days, the panels recharge the battery by midafternoon; on cloudy days, it simply saves less, which is exactly what I expected from a real home energy storage system.
I have had one minor troubleshooting moment. The app showed the battery at 100 percent, but it was not exporting during peak hours. I discovered the inverter had switched into a backup-only mode after a brief grid flicker. Cycling the setting restored normal discharge, and customer support confirmed no hardware fault. Since then, I check the operating mode after storms, rather than constantly watching the app.
Overall, the 280ah lithium battery has made solar power feel more useful: I am using my own daytime generation when electricity costs the most, without changing our routine or giving up comfort. For me, those practical peak-hour savings matter more than having a perfectly clean energy chart.
