That means I still have backup power if a storm knocks out the grid, without constantly checking an app. The app is helpful for checking solar battery levels, but I forget about it, which is exactly what I wanted.

I did have one minor scare during the second week. The battery stopped discharging just after sunset, and the inverter showed a communication warning. I power-cycled the gateway, waited five minutes, and restarted it. Everything came back normally, and customer support later explained that a firmware update had briefly interrupted the connection. Since then, the system has been boringly reliable.

My main advice is to look at your actual rate schedule before buying a solar battery. For me, shifting peak usage was more valuable than chasing maximum solar independence. The quiet savings every month are the reason I would make the same choice again.
