Solution Solar Battery
Running our home on solar power became easier after I added battery storage last spring. Our rooftop panels produced plenty during the day, but we still bought expensive electricity after dinner. I chose a growatt pylontech setup because local installers knew it and the quote seemed reasonable.
Installation took a day. The crew mounted the inverter and battery on my garage wall, ran cabling, and configured the monitoring app. They explained the backup settings clearly, then checked that the battery was charging from the panels before leaving.
The biggest difference appears between five and nine p.m., when utility charges are highest. On sunny days, the panels fill the battery before lunch. At dinner, the system switches automatically to stored energy, powering our induction hob, refrigerator, lights, and heat pump. Our evening grid consumption has fallen dramatically. Last month, our bill was about 38% lower than the same month last year, despite using more air conditioning.
One small hiccup happened during a cloudy week. The monitoring app showed the battery at 100%, yet the house was drawing from the grid. I checked the settings and found that backup reserve had accidentally been set to 100% during a firmware update. Lowering it to 20% restored normal operation. The app and inverter display simply refreshed at different times.
I now check the state of charge before running the washing machine, but I do not obsess over every percentage. The battery usually carries us through evening and reaches roughly 25% by bedtime. On rainy days, I shift laundry to midday and accept a slightly higher bill. That flexibility feels valuable.
After six months, I have needed no repairs. I may add a module if our electric car arrives, but this solar battery reduces peak-hour grid dependence without changing routine. I notice savings while cooking dinner.
