I installed my solar battery storage system last spring after getting tired of watching my electricity bill jump every summer evening. My rooftop panels produced plenty during the day, but once the sun went down, I was still buying expensive grid power for cooking, laundry, and air conditioning. The battery changed that routine.
I chose a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery rather than a li nmc model, mainly because of its reputation for long cycle life and safer indoor operation. The installer mounted it in my garage, connected it to a hybrid inverter, and set the reserve level at 20 percent. Once everything was online, I could see solar production, battery charge, household consumption, and grid import in five-minute increments. That visibility has been more useful than I expected.
My biggest saving happens between 4 and 9 p.m., when our utility charges peak rates. On sunny days, the panels fill the battery by early afternoon. Then the battery runs the refrigerator, lights, dishwasher, and heat-pump water heater after sunset. Before storage, my typical summer evening grid usage was around 8 to 11 kWh. Now it is usually under 2 kWh, unless we run the clothes dryer late. My monthly bill dropped from roughly $180 to $95 during the brightest months. That is not a perfect comparison because rates changed, but the peak-hour reduction is obvious.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the app showed the battery at 100 percent while the inverter reported standby. I power-cycled the communication gateway, waited ten minutes, and everything synchronized again. Since then, performance has been boringly reliable. I still watch the state of charge most mornings, but I rarely think about the system during the evening. That quiet feeling is my favorite benefit: solar energy works after sunset, when I need it.
