Running my evening routine through a growatt gbli6532 has changed how I use our solar system. Before adding the battery, I watched the utility meter closely after dinner, because our electricity rate jumps sharply from 4 to 9 p.m. Most of the solar power we generated during the day went straight back to the grid, while we bought expensive power at night.
The biggest difference is seeing the battery carry the house through those peak hours. On a sunny day, our rooftop solar usually charges it to around 95% by mid-afternoon. Once the oven, lights, refrigerator, and Wi-Fi are running after sunset, the system discharges steadily instead of pulling everything from the grid. I still use grid electricity on cloudy days, but our evening consumption has dropped noticeably. Comparing similar months, our bill fell by roughly 30 to 40 percent, depending on weather and how often we use the air conditioner. That saving feels more meaningful than the headline capacity because I can see it on the actual bill.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment during the first week. The battery stopped discharging overnight, even though the monitoring app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the settings and found the time-of-use schedule had the wrong peak-rate window. After correcting the schedule and restarting the inverter, discharge resumed normally. Since then, I glance at the app every few days, mainly to confirm the state of charge and solar production.
The battery has also made short outages less stressful. Our lights and internet stayed on during a brief evening interruption, although I avoid running heavy appliances from backup power. For me, the value is not complete energy independence; it is using more of our own solar energy, avoiding the most expensive utility hours, and having quieter, more predictable household power.
