My home solar battery setup has been running for eight months, and the biggest difference shows up after sunset.
I have a 6.4-kWh LiFePO4 battery connected to my rooftop solar panels and hybrid inverter. Before adding storage, the house immediately pulled power from the grid when the sun went down. That meant expensive evening electricity rates, and I could watch the meter spin while cooking dinner and running the dishwasher.
Now the battery usually charges between late morning and mid-afternoon, then carries our evening load until around midnight. On a typical sunny day, I use roughly 5 kWh from stored energy during peak hours. Last month, my utility bill was about $68, compared with $121 for a month last year before the battery was installed. The saving changes with weather, but shifting consumption away from peak pricing has been more valuable than I expected.
My one scare happened during a cloudy week. The battery stopped discharging at 42%, although the inverter still showed normal status. I checked the app, found a temperature warning, and discovered the utility closet had become warm because a vent was blocked by a storage box. After clearing it, I restarted the inverter using the manual, and discharge resumed within ten minutes. Since then, I keep the area open and check the battery temperature weekly.
