I installed a 10kWh LiFePO4-based battery beside my inverter last spring, mostly because our evening electricity rates had become painful. The system is a lifepo4 for solar power system, and I chose it after comparing lithium iron phosphate storage options with my installer. Setup was less dramatic than I expected. The electrician mounted the battery, connected the hybrid inverter, and configured the app in an afternoon. My only real job was moving boxes and deciding where the outdoor conduit should run.
The biggest difference showed up on the first full week. Before adding battery storage, my solar panels exported plenty of power around noon, but we still bought electricity between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. Now the battery charges from excess daytime solar production and carries the house through those expensive hours. I usually see it discharge to around 20% before midnight, then it recharges the next day. On cloudy days, I reserve the battery for dinner and avoid running the dishwasher until lunchtime.
Looking at my utility statements, my monthly bill dropped by roughly 30% compared with the same months last year. It is not a magic zero-bill result; the fixed connection charge remains, and winter production is weaker. Still, the peak-hour savings make the battery feel worthwhile. I particularly like seeing the app show solar self-consumption above 80% instead of watching midday exports disappear into the grid.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging for an evening. The inverter displayed a communication warning, so I checked the cable connections and restarted both units. It came back within ten minutes, and the installer later confirmed the update had reset a setting. Since then, it has been boring in the best possible way: charging, discharging, and quietly reducing grid use. It suits me.
