Solution Solar Battery
After watching my electricity bills climb through two summers, I added a 10 kWh lanlee home battery beside my solar inverter. The installation was less disruptive than expected: the crew mounted the battery in the garage, routed conduit, and finished before dinner. I spent the evening in the app setting a backup reserve and a time-of-use schedule rather than trying to understand every menu.
Our utility charges much more from 4 to 9 p.m., so the battery saves stored solar for those hours. On sunny days, it reaches full charge shortly after lunch; when cooking, running the heat pump, and charging our car push demand up at dinner, the battery supplies most of it. I can see the difference: our evening grid consumption fell from roughly 12 kWh to 3 kWh on a typical weekday.
The one nuisance happened during a cloudy week. The state of charge stayed at 18 percent, and the app showed “standby” even though the panels were producing. I checked the breaker, Wi-Fi, and schedule, then noticed backup reserve had accidentally been set to 20 percent after a firmware update. Lowering it restored charging the next morning. No service call, but it taught me to check settings before blaming the battery.
Since then, the energy storage system has been boring in the best possible way. It discharges smoothly, the hybrid inverter is barely audible, and our lights stayed on during two brief outages. I still keep a small reserve because I do not want to empty the battery every night, and winter production is clearly weaker. Even so, the battery has reduced our monthly bill by about $45 on average, with the biggest savings during heat waves.
My advice is to watch your actual load profile for a month before choosing battery capacity. I nearly bought a larger unit, but our evening usage did not justify it. For my household, solar panels plus a right-sized lithium iron phosphate battery have made power costs more predictable, not magically free. That practical improvement—not flashy features—is why I would make the purchase again.
