My first month was boring. The battery charged from surplus solar around midday, then discharged from 4 p.m. until bedtime. I kept the dishwasher, laundry, and water heating on their normal schedules, so I was not trying to game every watt-hour. The app showed the system carrying most of our evening load, including the refrigerator, lights, television, and induction cooktop. Before installation, our summer bill averaged about $180. After adding the battery, it fell to roughly $105, even though our household habits stayed the same.

The most useful surprise came during a cloudy week in November. One evening, the app showed the battery at 42%, yet it stopped discharging and the grid meter started climbing. I initially assumed the storage system had failed. The inverter screen displayed a standby message, and restarting it from the phone did nothing.

I called the installer the next morning. They had me check a setting I had overlooked: the backup reserve was set to 40%. Since I had enabled storm protection, the battery was deliberately holding that energy instead of using it for peak shaving. Lowering the reserve to 20% restored normal evening discharge, while leaving enough for a short outage. That small lesson made the app easier to trust, but I glance at it a couple times a week.
