Running my growatt sc 4860 LiFePO4 Battery for six months has changed the way I use our solar power at home. I had panels installed earlier, but before adding this LiFePO4 battery, we still pulled electricity from the grid every evening. The biggest difference has been during peak hours.
I programmed the hybrid inverter to charge from the panels during the afternoon and discharge between roughly 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. On sunny days, the battery usually covers our cooking, television, Wi-Fi, lights, and sometimes the washing machine. It does not sound dramatic, but avoiding those expensive peak-rate hours has made a noticeable dent in our electricity bill. Last month, our bill was about 35% lower than the same month last year, despite using the air conditioner more often.
The app is especially useful. It shows battery state of charge, solar production, household load, and grid import in one place. I found that watching the evening discharge curve helped me adjust habits. For example, I now run the dishwasher just after lunch instead of at night. That small change keeps more stored energy available for bedtime.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. One morning, the battery showed a communication warning and stopped discharging. I checked the cable between the battery and inverter, powered the system down as the manual instructed, and restarted it. The warning cleared within a few minutes. I have not seen it again.
What I appreciate most is that the system feels automatic rather than demanding daily attention. I still check the battery backup level before storms, but I am not constantly adjusting settings. During a brief outage, it kept our refrigerator and internet running.
