After installing a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate solar battery last spring, I stopped thinking of my rooftop panels as something that only worked during the day. The storage system has made the biggest difference between 5 p.m. and bedtime, when our electricity rate jumps.
I charge the battery from excess midday production, then use that stored energy for cooking, laundry, and air conditioning after sunset. Before adding storage, those evening hours regularly pushed us into the expensive tier. Now, the inverter automatically switches to battery power at 5 p.m., and our grid meter barely moves until the battery reaches its reserve level.

The savings are clearest on hot days: the panels cover daytime demand, while the battery handles the evening peak. I also like seeing real-time battery state-of-charge data in the app; it helps me decide whether to run the dishwasher immediately or wait until solar output returns. That small visibility has made me more deliberate with energy use.
My one annoying moment came during a cloudy week, when the battery stopped discharging at 38 percent. The app showed a warning about temperature, although the garage felt normal. I checked the ventilation clearance, rebooted the inverter, and found a loose temperature-sensor connector behind the cover. After reseating it, discharge resumed that evening.
It was not a dramatic failure, but it reminded me that solar battery systems still need occasional hands-on attention. I had previously read about cell assembly and a battery welding machine while comparing manufacturers, so I was glad this repair involved a connector rather than a battery pack replacement.
