Running my home on stored solar power has changed the way I think about electricity bills. I installed a growatt sph3600 compatible LiFePO4 Battery setup last spring, mainly because our evening usage was pushing us into expensive peak rates. The biggest difference appears after sunset. On a normal sunny day, the panels charge the battery by early afternoon. Once the utility switches to peak pricing at 4:00 p.m., the system automatically stops pulling from the grid and runs our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and heat-pump water heater from stored energy. I used to watch the meter climb every evening; now it often stays nearly flat until bedtime. This has been the most satisfying part of the investment.
My monthly bill before the battery averaged about $145. In the first full month, it fell to $96, with similar weather and routines. The savings vary during cloudy weeks, but shifting solar power into peak hours usually cuts $40–$60 from my bill. During a brief neighborhood outage, the lights and refrigerator stayed on. The app briefly showed zero output, which worried me, but the inverter indicator was green. Restarting the app connection fixed the display.
Since then, I have set the battery reserve at 25%, leaving backup power while using energy during peak rates. After nine months, I am not energy independent; winter production is limited, and heavy appliance use can drain it. Still, this solar battery makes bills predictable and saves money. I would prioritize installer support and monitoring over capacity.
