Solution Solar Battery
Running my solar battery system through a full summer has changed how I use electricity at home. The biggest difference came after installing the growatt 8000mtls 51.2V Battery alongside my rooftop solar panels. Before the battery, my house sent plenty of midday solar power back to the grid, then bought electricity again during the evening peak. Now, most of that excess solar energy charges the battery instead.
I usually set the battery to charge between late morning and mid-afternoon, when my panels are producing the most. Around 4 p.m., it starts supporting the house, especially when the air conditioner, refrigerator, and kitchen appliances are running together. I noticed the improvement on my first full billing cycle. My evening usage used to be the expensive part of the bill; now the battery covers much of it. My monthly electricity cost dropped by roughly a third compared with the same months last year, although the exact savings depend on the weather and utility rates.
One small troubleshooting moment happened during a cloudy week. The battery stopped discharging earlier than expected, and I initially thought something was wrong with the inverter. After checking the monitoring app, I realized the state-of-charge reserve had been set too high. I lowered the backup reserve slightly, and the system returned to normal operation. That little issue taught me to pay attention to battery settings rather than assuming the hardware had failed.
I also appreciate having backup power during short outages. It does not run every large load indefinitely, but it keeps lights, Wi-Fi, the refrigerator, and a few outlets working without interruption. The lithium battery has been quiet, and I have not needed to do any maintenance beyond checking the solar inverter and monitoring data occasionally.
For me, the main benefit is not complete energy independence. It is using more of my own solar power and avoiding expensive peak-hour electricity whenever possible.
