Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Running our home on a solar battery has changed the way I think about electricity. Before installing the growatt 2kw unit, I mostly watched the meter and hoped for sunshine.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. My installer mounted the battery beside the inverter, ran a short cable to the existing solar system, and explained the app clearly.
I chose a small system because our evening load is modest. The 2kW capacity does not run everything at once, but it comfortably covers our fridge, router, and lights overnight.
The biggest difference appears during peak pricing. Instead of sending every afternoon solar surplus back to the grid, the battery stores it, then supplies our house after dinner when rates rise.
On sunny days, I usually see the battery reach full by midafternoon. Cooking dinner and running the dishwasher from stored energy feels noticeably better than buying those kilowatt-hours at peak.
Our monthly bill has fallen by roughly 25% to 35%, depending on weather and how often guests visit. I am not claiming the battery pays for itself overnight, but the savings are consistent.
One morning the monitoring app showed a warning and the battery seemed stuck at 18%. I checked the breaker, restarted the inverter, and waited ten minutes. The warning cleared after.
It turned out to be a temporary communication issue after a router update, not a battery failure. That small hiccup taught me to keep the system manual nearby and avoid panicking.
I also appreciate the battery reserve setting. I keep 20% available for outages, although we have only used it once during a short storm outage. The fridge stayed cold and lights worked.
For me, the practical win is automatic self-consumption. I rarely touch controls now; the solar battery charges in daylight and helps after dark.
