Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell -
Solution Solar Inverter
After six months of watching my solar panels send surplus power back to the grid, I finally added a 10 kWh home battery with CALB lithium cells last spring. My main goal was simple: use less grid electricity after sunset, especially during expensive peak hours.
The installation took most of a day. The electrician mounted the battery beside my inverter, added an energy meter, and connected everything to my existing rooftop solar system. I had expected a messy retrofit, but the wiring was tidier than I expected. The only frustrating part was waiting for the monitoring app to recognize the battery; it needed a firmware update before showing correct state-of-charge readings.
The biggest difference appears between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Before storage, my panels stopped helping once the sun dropped, and the house pulled from the grid while cooking, running the dishwasher, and charging phones. Now the battery usually carries those loads. On clear weekdays, solar charges it fully by late afternoon, and I often reach bedtime with 20 to 30 percent remaining. My evening grid use has fallen dramatically. My utility bill dropped about $42 in the first full month, even though our household habits did not change.
I also noticed the battery responds quickly when clouds pass. It does not wait for some dramatic discharge event; the inverter smoothly blends solar, battery, and grid power without lights flickering. That quiet behavior matters more to me than flashy app graphs.
I did have one minor scare. During a heatwave, the battery stopped discharging overnight. The app showed normal charge, but the output was zero. I checked the backup reserve setting and discovered I had accidentally raised it to 100 percent while exploring backup mode. Lowering the reserve restored normal operation immediately. Nothing was broken, thankfully. So far.
