36v lithium battery

6 months ago, I installed a 36v lithium battery beside my inverter after getting tired of watching cheap midday solar power disappear into the grid. The setup was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to my solar panels, and configured the battery storage system to charge during daylight and discharge after sunset. I was using a basic hybrid inverter, so there was no major rewiring or renovation. The only awkward part was finding a clear, cool wall area near the electrical panel.

My biggest surprise has been the peak-hour bill savings. Before storage, our electricity usage jumped between 5 and 9 p.m., when the kids cooked, showered, and used the dryer. Now the battery covers most of that window. On sunny days, it reaches full charge by midafternoon, then runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and heat-pump circulation overnight. My monthly grid consumption fell from roughly 780 kWh to 430 kWh in the first comparable month. The bill dropped by about $82, not counting the small export credit. Savings vary with cloudy weather, but the solar battery has made our evening routine much less dependent on utility rates.

I did have one minor troubleshooting scare. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at night. The monitoring app showed 100 percent charge, but the inverter displayed standby. I checked the manual, turned off the backup breaker for a minute, and restarted the system. That restored normal operation, although I later learned the update had changed the battery reserve setting from 20 percent to 100. Once I reset it, the battery resumed discharging normally.

That little incident taught me to check settings before blaming the hardware. I now keep the reserve at 25 percent, which leaves backup power for short outages.
