Solution Solar Battery
Over the past six months, my home solar battery has changed how I use electricity more than I expected. I installed a 2.8 kWh lithium storage unit beside my inverter, mainly to stop buying expensive grid power during the evening peak.
Before adding storage, our solar panels exported most of their midday production, while we cooked, showered, and ran the dishwasher after sunset. That felt particularly wasteful in winter.
The installation was simpler than I feared. My installer mounted the battery, connected the battery management system, and programmed it to charge from solar first. I specifically compared several solar battery options, including 12V battery systems, before choosing a higher-voltage home storage model. The app showed a reserve setting of 30 percent, although I remembered setting 15 percent. I restarted the inverter, checked the operating mode, and lowered the backup reserve. Discharge resumed that night. It was not a serious fault, but it reminded me that battery monitoring matters.
Overall, I am happiest with the quieter evenings and smaller bills. Worth it.
