0nly after a few weeks of watching my electricity meter I realized how much our solar battery was changing evenings.
Before installing the system our rooftop solar panels produced plenty at noon but bought expensive grid power after sunset daily.
We chose a 300 amp hour lithium battery because I wanted usable capacity without maintenance or worrying about lead-acid replacement.
The installer mounted the battery beside our inverter and added a simple monitoring app to track state-of-charge and daily cycles.
Setup took one morning although I spent an hour adjusting the app schedule so charging and discharge times matched tariff.
Since then, the battery fills from surplus solar during daylight and powers our refrigerator, lights, router, and heat-pump overnight comfortably.
The biggest difference appears between five and nine p.m., when the utility rate jumps and cooking usually starts in our kitchen.
Instead of pulling from the grid, we now use stored energy, and my evening consumption has become surprisingly cheap there.
My first full month bill fell from about $210 to roughly $128, despite similar weather and the same work-from-home schedule.
That is roughly $82 saved, not a dramatic promise from a brochure, but a real monthly reduction I could see.
During a cloudy stretch, the battery still charged partially, then preserved energy for dinner and bedtime rather than emptying immediately completely.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment: the app showed the battery offline after a router restart, although power continued.
I checked the communication cable, rebooted the gateway, and waited ten minutes; then the monitoring returned with normal readings again.
That small scare taught me not to confuse lost internet data with lost battery function, a useful distinction during storms.
After three months, capacity still feels consistent, and the lithium battery has needed no water, cleaning, or special attention whatsoever.
