I installed a 10-kWh LiFePO4 solar battery last spring, after watching my evening electricity charges climb.
My rooftop panels already covered most daytime use, but without storage, I was sending cheap solar power to the grid and buying it back during the expensive 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. window.
On a sunny day, the battery usually reaches full charge by lunchtime. At dinner, I switch on the oven, dishwasher, and heat-pump water heater without thinking about peak rates. Before storage, those same appliances could add nearly $4 to $6 to my daily bill in winter. Now, my utility app typically shows $1 to $2. That does not sound dramatic every day, but over a month it has been roughly $70 to $90 saved, depending on weather and heating demand.
The lifepo448 unit has also made outages less stressful. During a brief storm-related blackout, it kept my refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a few lights running automatically. I noticed only because the router stayed online.
My only hiccup was a cold morning when the battery stopped discharging at 38%. The monitoring app showed a communication warning, and cycling the inverter did nothing. I shut down the system using its disconnect switch, waited five minutes, and restarted it. The warning cleared, but I called the installer anyway. They found a loose communications cable at the inverter, not a failed battery. Since then, it has been steady.
What I appreciate most is the quiet routine. The battery charges from excess solar, discharges at my programmed peak rate, and leaves a reserve for outages. I do not babysit it or change settings daily.
I check the state-of-charge graph with coffee, mainly to see whether cloudy days require grid power. The value is shifting consumption into cheaper hours, not complete energy independence for my family each month.
