Venturing into home battery storage, I mainly wanted to stop buying so much electricity during expensive evening hours. My rooftop solar panels already covered most daytime use, but after sunset my family would switch on the oven, water heater, lights, and air conditioning just as the utility rate increased.

The monitoring app showed no obvious fault, but the BMS had recorded a cell-voltage imbalance. After checking the connections and allowing a full, slower balancing charge, the issue disappeared. Since then, I have kept the battery enclosure cool and dry and review the battery state of charge every few days.
For me, the biggest benefit is not energy independence in an abstract sense. It is the practical daily savings and knowing my stored solar power is doing useful work after sunset.
