Having lived with my shenzen basen 280ah battery for several months, the biggest change has been how little attention I pay to peak-hour electricity prices. My rooftop solar used to export a lot of power in the afternoon, then I would buy expensive grid electricity after dinner. Now the battery stores that surplus and runs the house through the evening.
I installed the battery in my garage beside the inverter. The electrician spent most of the time checking cable sizing, grounding, and the configuration of the solar charge controller. I chose a 48V lithium iron phosphate battery because I wanted usable capacity, a long cycle life, and something safer. The shenzen basen 280ah pack gives me roughly 14 kWh before allowing for the reserve, which is plenty for lights, refrigerator, internet equipment, and television overnight.
My routine is simple. Solar charges the battery once the panels are covering daytime loads. Around 4 p.m., the system stops exporting and starts saving energy for the evening. After cooking dinner and running the dishwasher, I usually still have 35–45% state of charge at bedtime. On cloudy days, I set the inverter to preserve a little energy for outages rather than forcing a full discharge.
The bill difference is noticeable. Before storage, my summer bill averaged about $145. Since installing it, similar months have landed near $85, even though our usage has not changed much. That is not a miracle—the battery cannot create energy—but shifting solar power away from peak rates saves money. I estimate the battery is avoiding roughly $50–$65 monthly in peak charges.
My only issue was the monitoring app losing connection after a router update. The battery kept operating normally; I rebooted the gateway and re-entered the Wi-Fi password. Since then, it has been boring: quiet, predictable, and useful every evening.
