I installed my home battery storage system last summer after watching our electricity bills climb every evening. The setup includes rooftop solar panels, a hybrid inverter, and a 10-kilowatt-hour lithium battery. I chose microtek solar equipment through a local installer, mainly because the warranty was straightforward and the technician answered my questions without overselling anything.
Installation went smoothly overall. The crew spent most of the day checking cable routes, mounting the inverter, and programming the battery management system. My only surprise was how quiet everything sounded once it was running. I had expected a noticeable hum, but from the hallway I can barely tell it is there. They also showed me the monitoring app, which displays solar generation, household load, battery state of charge, and grid imports in real time. Good visibility has made me more aware of which appliances are costing money.
The biggest improvement has been during peak hours. Before storage, my oven, air conditioner, and water heater often ran between five and eight in the evening, exactly when electricity rates were highest. Now the battery charges from midday solar power and carries us through that expensive window. On a typical sunny day, I see the battery fall from around 95% to 35% by bedtime, with almost no grid usage during those hours. My monthly bill dropped by roughly 30%, or about $48, even though our overall electricity consumption has not changed much. It feels especially satisfying when the dishwasher runs after dinner and the app still shows zero grid import.
I did have one hiccup during a cloudy week. The battery stopped discharging at 50% because its backup reserve setting had accidentally been raised in the app. I lowered the reserve to 20%, restarted the inverter, and normal operation returned that evening. Now I check settings weekly.
