Keeping our evening electricity bill down was the main reason I installed a solar battery, and after six months, the biggest difference has been between 5 and 9 p.m. My rooftop panels usually finish producing before dinner, but the battery now carries the house through cooking, laundry, lights, and the heat-pump water heater.
I paired a 10 kWh lithium battery with a 3kw hybrid inverter. The electrician mounted the battery in the garage, added a new isolator, and connected the monitoring app in one afternoon. The app shows solar generation, battery charge, and household consumption. I set the battery to charge from solar during the day and discharge during our utility company’s peak period.
Before storage, I was buying a surprising amount of expensive evening power despite having solar production. In the first month, my electricity bill dropped by about 35 percent. That changes month to month, especially when cloudy weather reduces solar charging, but the battery has consistently covered most of our dinner-time usage. I particularly notice it when the oven and dishwasher run together; the grid meter barely moves instead of spinning steadily.
My only troubleshooting moment happened during a hot week. The battery stopped discharging at 20 percent, even though I had not set that reserve level. A look at the app showed a backup reserve setting had been enabled after a firmware update. I lowered it to 10 percent, and normal discharge returned. That reserve was useful during outages.
I am not claiming the system makes electricity free. We still import power on gray winter days, and the upfront cost will take years to recover. Still, this home energy storage setup has made our solar investment noticeably more useful. I now think of the battery as a practical bill-management tool, not just emergency equipment.
