Every evening, I used to watch my electricity meter climb after sunset, especially when the dishwasher, heat pump, and induction stove were running together. Since installing a 10-kWh home battery last spring, that routine has changed. My rooftop solar charges the battery during the day, and the inverter automatically carries the house through the expensive evening window. I chose headway lifepo4 batteries after comparing usable capacity and cycle-life claims, but the biggest difference for me has been seeing how quietly the system works rather than reading impressive specifications.
During a typical sunny day, my panels produce roughly 25 kWh, and the battery usually reaches 100 percent before lunch. From about 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., it supplies lights, appliances, and most of our cooking load instead of pulling expensive grid power. Before storage, those five hours cost me around $2.40 on a time-of-use plan. Now they generally cost less than 30 cents, depending on how much energy the battery saved for the evening. My monthly bill has fallen from about $185 to $115, even though our usage is nearly unchanged. That is a saving I can actually feel, not just a dashboard estimate.
One small annoyance appeared during the first week. On two cloudy afternoons, the battery stopped discharging at the programmed reserve, and I found the house importing power during peak hours. I initially blamed the battery, but the app showed an unusually high reserve setting left over from installation. After lowering it from 30 percent to 15 percent, the system resumed normal operation. I also learned that the backup output does not cover every circuit; my electric water heater remains on the grid, while lights and outlets stay powered. That limitation was clear in the manual, but I only understood it after living with the system for months.
