Running my home on solar power became noticeably easier once I added a battery storage system. My main focus has been evening savings, because that is where our electricity use normally jumps. We cook, shower, run the dishwasher, and watch television after sunset, just when grid prices are highest.
Before the installation, my solar panels sent plenty of power back to the grid during the day, but I still paid a painful amount during peak hours. Now, the battery charges from surplus daytime solar generation and discharges after dinner. That simple change has made the biggest difference to my bill.
In a typical month before storage, my bill hovered around $180. Since adding the 10 kWh home battery, it usually lands between $95 and $115, depending on weather and heating demand. After that quick correction, the charge and discharge schedule worked normally.
I now glance at the app each morning, mostly to see whether yesterday's solar production covered overnight use. For me, the best part is not having to think about peak rates every evening. The battery quietly uses energy I generated earlier, and the lower utility bill is the proof that it is doing its job.
Peace of mind matters nearly as much as monthly savings.
