Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Using the SUN 6K SG04LP3 5kW inverter and battery system has changed how I use electricity at home, especially during the expensive evening hours. Before installation, my solar panels sent most of their extra daytime power back to the grid, while I bought electricity after sunset at the highest rate. That always felt wasteful.
The setup itself was fairly straightforward, although I learned that battery placement matters. My installer put the lithium battery in a shaded utility area with good airflow, close to the inverter and main electrical panel. The whole installation took most of a day. I spent the first week checking the monitoring app constantly, watching solar production, battery state of charge, and household consumption. It was surprisingly satisfying to see the battery charging around noon and carrying the house through dinner.
My biggest practical saving comes from peak-hour usage. I normally charge the battery to nearly 100 percent before late afternoon, then switch the house to battery power when grid rates increase. It runs my refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and sometimes the heat-pump water heater without any noticeable difference. On sunny days, I often finish the night with 25 to 35 percent remaining. My monthly electricity bill has dropped by roughly 30 to 40 percent compared with the same months before installing solar storage.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging one evening even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I discovered that a backup reserve setting had been raised accidentally during a firmware update. Lowering the reserve restored normal operation immediately. Since then, I check settings after updates instead of assuming something is broken.
What I appreciate most is control. I am using more of my own solar energy, avoiding peak rates, and keeping limited backup power available during outages. The battery has not eliminated my bill, but the daily savings and calmer feeling during grid interruptions make the investment worthwhile for me.
