Solution Solar Inverter
Running my evening routine has changed since I added a growatt 5kw solar battery to our rooftop system. Before that, our electricity bill jumped whenever the air conditioner and oven were running after sunset. Now the battery charges from excess solar during the day and carries us through the expensive evening period.
Our utility uses time-of-use pricing, so the difference is easy to see. On sunny days, I usually reach dinner with the battery around 80%. By bedtime, it is often near 35% instead of buying peak power from the grid. My monthly bill has fallen from roughly $180 to $110. Saving about $70 most months feels very real.
The one hiccup happened during a cloudy week. I noticed the battery had stopped discharging at 22%, even while the house was using power. I checked the Growatt inverter screen and found a backup reserve setting had been changed during a firmware update. I had accidentally raised the backup reserve from 20% to 30%. After correcting it, discharge resumed normally. The manual was clear enough, although I emailed the installer for reassurance.
I like checking the monitoring app each morning. It shows solar production, battery state of charge, inverter output, and grid imports. On rainy days, I let the system preserve more charge for essential loads, and I avoid running the clothes dryer during peak hours. That small habit makes the storage capacity feel larger than it really is.
Overall, the growatt 5kw setup has been a practical upgrade rather than a flashy gadget. It reduces grid dependence, protects us from some peak rates, and gives our daytime solar power a second life after the sun goes down. For my household, that everyday usefulness matters more than chasing perfect energy independence.
