Solution Solar Battery
I installed a 10-kWh lithium battery for home inverter system last spring after watching too much of our daytime solar power disappear back to the grid. Our three-person household uses most electricity after work, so the timing felt backwards: panels produced power while we were out, and the utility supplied it during dinner and evening relaxation.
The installer mounted the home battery beside the inverter in our garage and added a small monitoring device. Setup took most of a day. The physical work was tidy, although the app pairing took another evening because the battery connected to my phone but refused to show the Wi-Fi network. Rebooting the gateway and moving my router closer fixed it; I have not had that problem since.
The biggest difference has been peak-hour savings. I set the solar battery to charge from solar first and discharge from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., when our rates are highest. On sunny days, the battery covers the induction cooktop, refrigerator, lights, and most of our evening air-conditioning. We still pull a little from the grid when everyone showers or the heat pump starts, but those short spikes are much smaller on the bill.
Before installation, our monthly electricity bill averaged around $180 during the warmer months. Since adding the energy storage system, it has usually landed between $85 and $110, depending on weather and how often we run the air conditioner. That is not a perfect apples-to-apples comparison, and I am not claiming the battery erased the bill, but the reduction has been obvious. We are using more of our own solar electricity instead of selling it cheaply and buying it back expensively.
Winter is the weak spot: short days leave less stored energy for evening use, but watching solar generation and grid import still feels worthwhile.
