Running our solar battery system for six months has changed the way I think about electricity bills. My main focus has been using stored power during peak hours, and that is where I have noticed the biggest difference.
I installed a 30kWh lithium-ion battery alongside a growatt 30kw inverter. The setup was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the battery in my garage, configured the solar inverter, and walked me through the monitoring app. I initially spent too much time refreshing the app, but after a week I mostly stopped checking it. The system now charges from the rooftop solar after breakfast and switches the house over to battery power when our utility rate climbs in the afternoon.
Before storage, my evening electricity use was the expensive part of the day. Running the oven, air conditioner, and pool pump between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. could push a single day's cost surprisingly high. Now the battery usually carries us through that window. On sunny days, I still have 35–45% charge left at bedtime, and the next morning solar tops it up again. My monthly bill has fallen by roughly 35%, not because I use less power, but because I avoid buying as much during peak pricing. The savings vary with weather; winter cloudy weeks are less impressive, while bright summer months feel almost effortless.
The only hiccup was a low battery warning after several gray days. I had set the reserve too low, so the battery reached its minimum overnight and the inverter briefly pulled grid power. I raised the reserve from 15% to 25% in the app, and it has not happened again. That small adjustment taught me that battery capacity is not the whole story; energy management settings matter.
For my home, it works reliably every day.
