Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell -
Solution Solar Inverter
Every evening after dinner, I check our solar battery app, but now I actually enjoy seeing how much energy we kept from the afternoon sun. Before installing battery storage, our panels sent surplus electricity back to the grid during the day, then we bought power back during the expensive evening hours. That felt wasteful, especially in summer when the air conditioner runs until bedtime.
We researched the best batteries for solar power storage before choosing a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate home battery, mainly because I wanted safer, longer-lasting solar energy storage rather than the cheapest option. The installer finished the work in one day, including a hybrid inverter and backup connection.
The app setup took me longer than the physical installation; pairing the battery and setting a reserve level required a couple of retries. I settled on keeping 20 percent in reserve for outages, although that reduces daily savings.
The biggest difference appears on our utility bill. I programmed the system to charge from solar panels and discharge between 4 and 9 p.m., when our time-of-use rate is highest. On a typical sunny day, the battery covers cooking, lights, the dishwasher, and most of our evening cooling. Our monthly bill dropped from roughly $185 to $105 during the first full summer month. That is about $80 saved, though I do not pretend every month will match it. Cloudy weeks and winter heating still mean buying grid electricity.
One small troubleshooting moment taught me more than the sales brochure. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time. I found that the update had reset the time-of-use schedule to default. Re-entering it fixed the problem immediately, but I now check the app after updates instead of assuming everything stayed unchanged.
For me, peak-hour savings matter more than chasing off-grid independence; backup power is reassuring.
