Running my home battery for six months has changed the way I think about electricity. Since the battery was commissioned, I usually switch the house over to stored solar power around 4:30 p.m. I do not obsess over it. A day leaves me with 70% remaining at bedtime, and the system carries the refrigerator, internet equipment, lights, and kitchen appliances through the evening.

The savings are not dramatic every day. Cloudy weather and winter production still mean I buy power from the grid. Yet my monthly bill has fallen from about $180 in summer to near $95, even though our usage is similar. The battery does not eliminate the bill, but it cuts peak-hour consumption, and that feels more valuable than the solar generation number.

I did have one small troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time. I checked the inverter, found the backup reserve had reset to 50%, and lowered it to 20%. Once corrected, discharge resumed that evening. Support replied the next morning, which was reassuring, although I wish the app had explained the change more clearly.

For me, the best part is routine savings: solar panels charge the home battery while I am out, and I use that stored energy most evenings when rates are highest.
