Keeping our electricity bills under control was the main reason I installed a home solar battery system last autumn. I paired six rooftop panels with an 8kw growatt inverter 48V Battery, and the difference during peak hours has been surprisingly noticeable.
Before installation, I used to export solar power at midday and then buy expensive electricity after dinner. With the battery now, surplus energy charges in the afternoon. Once the sun goes down, the inverter switches the house over to stored power automatically. I only notice the change when the refrigerator and lights keep running while the grid meter barely moves.
My utility app shows that our evening consumption has dropped from roughly 8 or 9 kilowatt-hours to about 2 on a typical clear day. That does not eliminate the bill because we still pay connection charges and use grid electricity during cloudy stretches, but it has cut my monthly payment by around 35 to 45 percent. During summer air-conditioning weeks, the saving was closer to 25 percent because the battery emptied earlier.
The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the battery in a cool utility room, left clear space around it, and explained the battery management system settings in plain language. I appreciated being shown how to set a reserve level; I keep 25 percent in reserve for outages rather than chasing every last watt of savings.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. One morning the battery stopped discharging even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the obvious things, including the breaker and inverter error screen. Nothing looked wrong. After calling support, I learned a firmware update had changed the operating schedule back to backup only. Restoring my time-of-use setting fixed it immediately. Since then I check the app once a week, not constantly, and worry less.
