Solution Solar Battery
Keeping my solar battery charged through the day has changed the way our house uses electricity. I installed a 10kWh lithium ion battery last spring after watching evening grid rates eat into the savings from our rooftop solar panels. I was especially curious about the “2kw lithium ion battery price” because I first considered a much smaller system, but our installer explained that usable capacity mattered more than the headline size. At home, my practical target was simple: store excess midday solar and avoid peak electricity between 4pm and 9pm.
During sunny months, our battery usually reaches 100% by early afternoon. Once the cooking starts and the heat pump kicks in, it supplies nearly everything until bedtime. On our utility bill, this shows up as a noticeable drop in peak usage rather than a magical disappearance of the bill. Last month, my import during the expensive window was about 70% lower than the same month last year, despite similar weather. My total bill fell by roughly $62, which is more useful to me than impressive app graphs.
The only hiccup came in July when the battery stopped discharging at 46%. I noticed because the house suddenly pulled power from the grid during a peak period. The monitoring app showed a standby warning, but no clear explanation. I power-cycled the inverter once, checked the battery isolator, and found a loose communication cable behind the wall-mounted unit. After reseating it, the system resumed normally. I now glance at the state of charge every few days and keep the inverter area clear, especially during hot weather.
I compare usable kWh, cycle warranty, inverter compatibility, and cost, not just the 2kw lithium ion battery price. It isn't free, but it makes the investment worthwhile for our evening demand.
