Solution Solar Battery
Very glad I stopped treating my solar panels as a daytime-only investment. After adding an eve lithium iron phosphate battery, my evenings changed more than I expected.
Before the battery, our household used most electricity after dinner, when rates were highest. I would watch the smart meter climb while the dishwasher, heat pump, and induction cooker ran together. My solar array produced plenty at lunch, but that energy went back to the grid for a small credit. Now the home battery charges through the afternoon and starts discharging around 4:30 p.m. We usually get through the peak period without pulling much from the grid.
My first full month with it cut the evening portion of my electricity bill by roughly 35%. That is not a dramatic zero bill, especially during cloudy weeks, but the saving is visible and repeatable. I also like seeing the battery state of charge on the monitoring app. It makes energy use feel less mysterious.
The only hiccup came during a hot weekend. The battery stopped discharging at 62%, even though the app showed normal operation. I checked the breaker and found the backup output switch had been nudged off when I moved some storage boxes. Turning it back on did not immediately help, so I restarted the monitoring gateway. After about ten minutes, discharge resumed. It was a minor troubleshooting moment, but I appreciated not needing a technician visit.
Since then, I have kept the inverter, battery cabinet, and cables clear, and I check the app once a week rather than obsessively. The lithium iron phosphate chemistry was one reason I chose this system: it seemed like a sensible fit for daily cycling. The biggest benefit is simple: consistency.
