Solution Solar Battery
2 summers ago, I installed a 10kWh LiFePO4 solar battery in my garage, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity from the grid.
Before that, my rooftop panels exported most of their midday power, while our cooking, cooling, and laundry happened after dinner. The battery changed that routine immediately.
Each morning, I check the app over coffee. It shows how much solar energy went into storage and how much the house used overnight. On sunny days, the battery reaches 100% by early afternoon. I set it to discharge during peak hours, so the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and television run from stored power instead of the utility supply.
That has made the biggest difference on my bill. My peak-rate usage fell from roughly 9kWh a day to about 2kWh, and our monthly bill dropped by around $55, although the exact savings depend on weather and rate changes. I did not expect the savings to feel so noticeable.
One small surprise was a low-battery warning during a three-day cloudy spell. I had left the backup reserve at 20% but ran a space heater longer than usual. The inverter shut off that circuit at 18%. I first thought the solar battery had failed, then realized my mistake. After raising the reserve to 30% and avoiding electric heating overnight, it behaved normally.
For my setup, I use a 12v inverter 3000w. It runs smaller backup loads, while the main hybrid inverter handles the battery bank. I added a fuse, disconnect, and proper ventilation after reading too many scary forum stories about cable heating.
I check terminal tightness monthly and watch battery cycles. Overall, storage feels like a quiet household habit: charge in daylight, use it at night, and let the utility handle cloudy days. That peace of mind matters during short outages here too.
