Solution Solar Inverter
7 p.m. is when I notice the biggest change from my solar battery system: my house gets quieter during expensive evening hours. Before adding storage, I sent most of my solar power back to the grid during the day, then bought it back after dinner. That routine made the savings feel disappointingly small.
Now I charge a 10-kWh lithium-ion battery from rooftop solar, and it usually carries the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and a heat-pump water heater through the evening peak period. My utility bill dropped by roughly $65–$85 in summer, depending on weather and how much laundry we run after sunset. It is not a dramatic zero-bill setup, but the reduction is consistent, and I notice it most when air conditioning runs late.
The setup was easier than I expected. The installer mounted the inverter beside the existing solar equipment and connected the battery in one afternoon. I specifically keep a 67.2 volt 5amp lithium ion battery charger in the garage, though I have only used it. The battery management system handles normal charging automatically, and the monitoring app shows state of charge, solar production, and household load without much fuss.
One minor annoyance happened during a cloudy week. The battery reached its reserve level earlier than expected and switched back to grid power. I initially thought the inverter had failed, but the app showed that I had accidentally set the backup reserve to 30%. Lowering it to 15% changed performance, and returned the next sunny day.
What I value most is predictability. I can see the forecast, adjust the reserve, and avoid running the dishwasher during rates. The battery has not eliminated my electric bill, but it has made my solar investment feel useful.
