Running my solar battery for six months has changed the way I think about electricity bills. Before installing the srne battery powerwall, I used most of my power during the evening peak, when rates were highest. Now the battery charges from my rooftop solar through the afternoon and carries the house through dinner, evening showers, and overnight standby loads.
The saving is most noticeable on weekdays. My utility bill used to average around $185 a month in summer. During the last two summer billing cycles, it was $108 and $116, despite running the air conditioner more often. I am not claiming the battery covers everything; it usually reaches about 20% by breakfast, and I still import power on cloudy days. Still, shifting those expensive peak hours makes the solar energy storage worthwhile for my household.
One small issue appeared during the first month. The battery stopped discharging at night, even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the settings and discovered that a firmware update had reset the time-of-use schedule. After I restored the peak rate window and rebooted the inverter, discharge resumed normally. It took about fifteen minutes and no electrician visit, but I now screenshot the settings after every update.
For daily use, I keep the battery reserve at 20%. That gives me a little backup during short outages without sacrificing too much bill savings. The system powers our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and sometimes the microwave when the grid drops. It does not run our electric dryer for long, so expectations matter.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic operation. I rarely think about the lithium battery now; I just check the state of charge and monthly utility total. My payback will take several years, but the immediate peak demand reduction makes the investment feel practical.
