Our solar battery went live last September, and the first thing I noticed was how much quieter our evenings felt. Before installing the system, I watched the utility meter climb whenever the electric heat pump started after dinner. Now, the battery charges from our rooftop solar through the afternoon and carries the house through the expensive evening window.

I chose a solaredge setup with a home battery because I wanted something integrated rather than juggling separate monitoring apps. The installer finished in one day. I did have to reset the monitoring gateway once that night; it showed the battery at zero percent even though the app said it was charging. A power cycle and a call to the installer fixed it, and it has been boringly reliable since.

The most satisfying change is on my bill. We used to pull roughly 8–10 kWh from the grid during peak hours each weekday. Last month that fell to about 1–2 kWh, mostly on cloudy days. My bill dropped by around $70 compared with the same month last year, despite running the heat pump more often. The battery does not erase the bill—there are still connection charges and winter days when solar production is weak—but peak rate avoidance is where I see the value every day.

I also like checking the state of charge before bed. If it is above 40%, I know we can usually get through breakfast without buying power. I am considering adding another battery rather than more panels, because our evening usage is the limiting factor. So far, the storage system has felt less like exciting technology and more like a dependable household appliance—which is exactly what I wanted.
