ctl battery

Turning our solar panels into something useful after sunset was the main reason I bought a home battery. Before the installation, I watched our meter send midday solar back to the grid, then bought electricity during the evening period. It felt wasteful.

The installer fitted a 10 kWh ctl battery in my garage, alongside a hybrid inverter. Setup took a day. The battery was mounted, the electrician labeled the isolators and the app was running before they left. I chose a reserve level of 20 percent, so there is backup capacity if the power goes out.

The week was satisfying. Our dishwasher, heat-pump water heater, and kitchen appliances now run from stored solar between 5 and 9 p.m. On sunny days, the battery reaches full charge by afternoon. Instead of exporting power for a low credit, I use it when rates are highest. My evening grid consumption has dropped, and our monthly bill fell by about 35 percent compared with the season last year. That number changes with weather, of course, but the difference is visible on the utility statement.

I did have one scare. The app showed the battery at zero one morning after two cloudy days, even though the house still had power. I checked the settings and found the system had entered its backup reserve mode after an overnight outage. A restart through the inverter menu cleared the warning, but I called the installer to confirm it was normal. They also adjusted the minimum reserve.

Six months in, I am happiest with the routine rather than dramatic savings. I check the solar battery app over coffee, shift laundry into sunny hours when possible, and let the storage system handle the evening peak. It has made our renewable energy system feel practical, not just environmentally responsible.
