The biggest difference appears after 4:30 p.m., when our utility switches to peak pricing. Before storage, we regularly bought grid electricity while cooking and running the heat pump. Now the solar battery usually charges to around 90% by lunchtime, then carries us through the expensive hours. On a typical sunny weekday, our evening electricity use comes almost entirely from stored energy. My bill dropped from roughly $210 to $145 the first month, despite similar weather and household routines. It’s not a dramatic overnight payback, but saving about $65 monthly feels tangible.

I did have one troubleshooting scare. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time. The app still reported 78% capacity, so I initially assumed the system was fine. I checked the operating mode and found backup reserve had quietly reset to 30%. Once I restored my preferred 10% reserve, the battery resumed feeding the house that evening. Customer support confirmed the update had changed the setting, and they helped me add an alert for future changes.

What I appreciate most is the automatic routine. I don’t have to think about switching circuits or carrying a portable power station around. During an outage last month, it kept our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a few lights running without interruption. I’m still watching long-term battery degradation and the seasonal drop in solar production, but so far this home energy storage setup has made peak-hour power noticeably less painful.
