solar panel and battery price

Our solar battery system has been running for eight months, and the biggest difference has been what happens after dinner. Before installing it, I watched electricity rates climb during the evening peak. My panels produced plenty at noon, but I was still buying expensive power when we cooked, ran the dishwasher, and charged phones.

I chose a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery after comparing the solar panel and battery price across several installers. The cheapest quote was not my favorite; it had a smaller inverter and vague warranty language. I paid more for a hybrid inverter, proper monitoring, and local installation. The crew finished in one day, although getting the utility approval took nearly three weeks.

What I like most is the battery automatically fills from solar and then carries our house through the evening. On a normal sunny day, the battery reaches 100% around 2 p.m. From 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., we use stored energy for lights, cooking, air conditioning, and laundry. Our monthly grid consumption dropped from about 820 kWh to 390 kWh. The bill fell from roughly $210 to $108, though rates and weather change. That is about $102 saved in a typical month, which makes the solar battery worthwhile for us.

The only hiccup came during a cloudy week in January. The battery reached its reserve setting, and the inverter briefly switched to grid power with an alert saying “low battery.” I initially worried something had failed, but the app showed normal operation. I raised the reserve from 10% to 20%, and the warning disappeared after the next sunny day. That small lesson mattered: battery capacity is not the same as usable capacity, especially when backup reserve and inverter limits are involved.

I now check the monitoring app once or twice weekly, mostly for curiosity.
