Solution Solar Battery
Once I installed the sol ark 12k battery system last spring, my main goal was simple: use less grid power after sunset. During the day, my rooftop solar panels often produce more electricity than the house needs, so I wanted that excess charging the battery instead of exporting it for a small credit. The installer mounted the inverter and battery in my garage, and the physical setup was cleaner than I expected. They added a new subpanel and moved a few circuits, including the refrigerator, lights, and internet gear, onto the backup loads panel. At first I worried the whole installation would feel complicated, but the monitoring app made the battery state of charge easy to understand.
The only hiccup came during commissioning: the battery stopped charging at 82% because the installer’s CT clamp was reversed. A quick call confirmed the wiring issue, and after flipping the clamp, the solar production and battery charging readings matched my utility meter. I appreciated that troubleshooting because it taught me not to panic when the app briefly showed strange energy flows. Since then, the system has been pleasantly boring, which is exactly what I want from home energy equipment.
Where I live, utility rates jump from 4-9 p.m. Before the battery, our bill climbed despite midday solar. Now the sol ark 12k charges late morning and powers the house through peak hours. Our monthly bill fell from $210 to $115, although fixed charges remain. That is roughly $95 saved monthly. I notice the difference while cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and using the heat pump together. During one short outage, the transfer was fast enough that my Wi-Fi router stayed online and the refrigerator kept running. The battery backup is not magic, but it makes storms less stressful. Shifting solar into peak hours has been my biggest win.
