Every evening, I check my solar battery app before starting dinner. Since installing a 10 kWh versorgungsbatterie last spring, my house has changed from exporting most midday solar power to using it when electricity costs the most. That simple shift has made the biggest difference to my bills.

Our solar panels usually fill the battery by early afternoon, especially on sunny days. After sunset, the battery runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, washing machine, and often the induction hob. I programmed the inverter to avoid grid electricity during the expensive evening period, roughly from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Before the battery, those hours were when our household used the most power.

In the first full month, our electricity bill dropped from about €118 to €72. It was a mild month, so I do not expect that exact saving all year, but the reduction has stayed noticeable. Across the summer, the battery covered around 65 to 80 percent of our evening consumption. On cloudy days, it does not fully charge, and I still buy some grid power, but I am no longer watching cheap solar energy flow away at lunchtime while paying full price later.

The only irritating moment came during a firmware update. The monitoring app showed the battery at zero even though the inverter display showed 46 percent. I initially thought the storage system had failed. After restarting the gateway and waiting about ten minutes, the readings matched again. Customer support confirmed it was a display synchronization issue, not lost energy.

I like that the system works quietly in the background. I rarely think about it until I compare bills. My biggest practical advice is to size the solar battery around your evening usage, not the total panel capacity. A larger battery would not help us much in winter because there simply is not enough sunshine to fill it. For our home, this setup has made solar power feel genuinely useful after dark.
