Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
On installation day, I expected the solar battery to be the complicated part, but the process was calm. My installer fitted a 10 kWh lithium battery in the garage beside the inverter, added a backup circuit for the refrigerator, lights, internet router, and outlets, then connected it to the app. The phrase power wall battery 10kw was how I searched for options, although my installed unit is usually described as a 10 kWh home battery.
The useful change has been what happens after sunset. Before storage, my solar panels exported their extra production in the afternoon, and I bought electricity back during the expensive evening period. Now the battery charges from surplus solar and starts discharging around 4 p.m. When the children are home, the oven is running, and the heat pump kicks on, I am using stored solar instead of peak-rate grid power.
My month was not dramatic, but it was noticeable. My bill fell from about $186 to $112, even though we had cloudy days. In the following sunny month, it dropped to $79. I do still pull from the grid overnight when the battery reaches its reserve level, so I am not pretending the house is energy independent. I keep a 20 percent backup reserve because short outages are common during summer storms.
I did have one troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging one evening because the app had switched to “backup only” after a brief outage. I changed the operating mode back to self-consumption, and it resumed within a few minutes. Since then, I check the battery state of charge and solar production once or twice a week.
For me, the real win is predictable evening usage. The solar battery has made my electric bill less sensitive to peak pricing, and that saving matters more than impressive specifications.
