Solution Solar Inverter
I installed my solar battery system last summer, mainly to stop buying so much electricity during the evening peak. My setup uses a 5 kWh LiFePO4 battery bank, built around a lifepo4 50ah cell configuration, connected to a hybrid inverter and six rooftop solar panels. I had an electrician handle the mains connection, but I mounted the battery cabinet and ran the monitoring cable myself.
The biggest difference has been between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Before the battery, my family cooked dinner, ran the dishwasher, and used the air conditioner just as electricity prices climbed. Now the solar panels charge the battery during the afternoon, and the inverter automatically switches to battery power when the peak period begins. On a typical sunny day, I use almost no grid electricity during those hours. My monthly bill has dropped from around $180 to between $105 and $125, depending on weather and air-conditioning use.
I did have one small troubleshooting scare. After a cloudy weekend, the battery stopped discharging at night even though the app showed 62% state of charge. I eventually found that the inverter had switched into backup-only mode after a brief grid outage. Changing the operating mode restored normal discharge, and the battery started covering our evening loads again. I appreciated having the app because it showed battery voltage, charge current, and energy flow clearly enough for me to understand what happened.
So far, the lithium iron phosphate battery has been quiet, cool, and maintenance-free. I am careful not to drain it completely every night, and I keep the reserve level at 20% for outages. The solar battery has not eliminated my electricity bill, but it has made the expensive hours much less painful. For my home, predictable peak-hour savings have mattered more than chasing maximum backup capacity.
