Solution Solar Inverter
I installed my solar battery last spring after watching our evening electricity bills climb. We already had rooftop panels, but most of their daytime production went back to the grid while we bought power after sunset. The main change was adding a 10-kWh lithium battery paired with a single phase inverter.
Before installation, peak-hour usage was our biggest headache. The dishwasher, heat pump, and cooking often overlapped between 5pm and 9pm. Now the battery covers that window on most clear days. In practical terms, our utility bill fell from roughly $185 to $105 in the first full month, despite similar weather and routines. That is not a dramatic off-grid transformation, but saving about $80 monthly feels real, especially because the battery is using electricity we generated ourselves. Our solar self-consumption rose noticeably, and I no longer think about shifting laundry to noon.
One evening, I noticed the battery stopped discharging while the app showed a healthy charge. The inverter displayed a grid warning after a brief neighborhood power flicker. I turned the system off at the battery isolator, waited a minute, and restarted it as the manual suggested. Everything returned to normal, and the battery backup kept working during a later outage. That experience made me trust the battery backup much more.
I now glance at the app weekly, clear leaves from the panels, and check that the garage stays dry and cool. For my home, the best part is quiet, predictable savings rather than chasing energy independence. The battery does not eliminate every grid purchase, but it makes our rooftop solar system much more useful after dark.
